Bracelets and more bracelets

It's too bad that my camera doesn't take better pictures because DD K. has been busy digging thru our beads and making some pretty bracelets to donate to the etsy site for Mittens For Akkol.

http://www.mittensforakkol.etsy.com/

These should be on the site in about 7 days. We will be sending them in soon and Nanci will get them on the site asap, I'm sure.

All the money raised on this site is used to ship warm socks, mittens, hats, sweaters, vests over to the children in the orphanage in Akkol, Kazakhstan. A shipment is going soon and there will be more shipments to follow. The need is so great, please consider helping by purchasing some of your holiday gifts from this site.
Please check the site frequently, things are being added often.
Knitting you ask?: I am busy trying to finish up the last 2 pair of socks that I will be able to get done for this shipment. This will bring my total to 24 pair for this shipment, to be added to the donations of many other knitters, our goal is to have a new pair of handknit warm wool socks for every child in the orphanage(265 pair). We are almost there, in fact we may already be there, but we are still knitting because we can't exceed the need.
On personal knitting: I have been putting in a little time on SILs BD socks and
I finally made it to row 60 on my Secret of the Stole KAL shawl. I was having trouble keeping track of what row I'm on. Tonight, I finally found some re-positionable hiliter tape at JoAnns of all places. It was in the quilting dept. I highly reccommend it for working with a wide chart.
Oh boy, tomorrow I will be teaching DD K. how to put a zipper in some fleece PJs that she is making for a gift for her sister, the other DD K. Maybe, I should start refering to them as K1. and K2. LOL, yah like I'm going to make that call. Hmmmm, maybe I'll use their birth order, about 2 minutes difference. So, DD K2. is making pjs for DD K1. Ah yes, that will work.
Gotta run, DJ

More goodies for Akkol

This is the other 2 AG doll sweater sets that I am mailing out tomorrow to Nanci for theM4A etsy site to help raise money to pay the shipping costs of getting warm socks and other clothing to the orphanage in Akkol, Kazakhstan.

After Nanci receives them she will be putting them on the etsy site at:

there are other things on there that you may want to consider as gifts for your friends and family. This a way of giving 2 gifts for the cost of one. The kids in the orphanage will get the warm clothing and you get a nice item to use or give as a gift. Win-Win.
This is the last 3 pair of socks that I knit for the Mittens For Akkol challenge. they are in the box and ready for the UPS store. Watch out Nanci, here comes a very heavy box.
TA, DJ

Learn something new every day!

For instance, I just learned (after ump-teen tries) that all the pictures that I have been trying to upload and couldn't find, were actually placed in a second folder by my very smart camera. Ugh! If only it had a smart operator! LOL
So, I can post pics from my own camera again. Yippee!

Here is one of the little sweater sets for the American Girl Doll that will be on the etsy site for Mittens for Akkol. http://www.mittensforakkol.etsy.com/
It will be on there next week some time. If I ever finish taking the pics of the other things that I'm sending and get the box in the mail. Ta for now, DJ

Santa Hats for AG dolls and KAL

Aren't they cute!? You may purchase them very soon (about 7 to 10 days) from the etsy site of the Mittens For Akkol yahoo group. Your purchase will help us warm the orphans in the home in Akkol, Kazakhstan. Check out the other things available(new things being added all the time):
Edit by DJ, Oct. 7, 2007: I thought I should note here that my little model for the 18 inch AG Doll Santa hat is just a little baby that I picked up somewhere and she is not an AG doll. I don't own an AG doll and the one I usually borrow wasn't available at the time that I took the pic.
For those who are interested, I am taking part in the Secrets of the Stole KAL and here is a pic of my swatch, finally. It was taken with Dh's camera and it has no flash, but I am stuck with it until I can figure out why my card reader doesn't like the pics that I take on my flash camera. I have started the KAL and I'm on row 31. Pics to follow in a day or two. I have Santa hats to make and some other things to get ready for sale on the M4A etsy site. So the Kal will be slow going for me. Priorities! DJ

these little sockies went to Children in Common. Nice thick socks for small kiddos. I used left-overs from some of the socks that I knit for MittensForAkkol. I love making these little guys. They work up so quickly and I can just see the cute little toes that they will be warming.

I tried again to up load a pic of my Secret of the Stole KAL swatch. No can do. I just can't figure out why I can upload older pics like this one and not the newer ones. Of course, the instruction book to my camera may just as well have been written in Greek. I don't read symbols well. I like plain old written english. Ah, well. I'll keep trying until I figure it out.

In the meantime, we have received the first clue to the Secret of the Stole and I have knitted 18 rows. I hope that I will be able to finish it before the next clue comes on the 12th of Oct. At the same time I have some knitting to get done for the etsy site of the MittensForAkkol group. 100% of the profits from this site goes to support the ophans in Akkol, Kazakhstan. We need all the help we can get to make sure that these precious children are warm even tho it is -40 degrees outside in winter and the buildings are not kept as warm as American homes, so the children need warm socks, sweaters, vests, hats and mittens. http://www.mittensforakkol.etsy.com/

If you can't help us with this effort, please consider doing even just one thing this winter to help warm someone in need. The world will be a better place if you do.

Secret of the Stole KAL

starts tomorrow, Oct. 5th. I have my swatch done and am fairly pleased with it. I had hoped to get some Alpaca Cloud from KnitPicks for this shawl, but the budget is just too tight right now. If I didn't need more wool for socks for Akkol and CIC, I would probably splurge. But, I can get Patons Classic on sale right now and that is what I prefer to use for the kiddies socks. Anyway, the swatch turned out better than I thought it would. Since I am pretty sure that the stash yarn that I found is just plain old WoolEAse, I wasn't really expecting to like it, but if I'm honest with myself I will admit that it feels pretty nice and looks fine.
The designer, DK, is gearing it toward new years eve wear and reccomending fancy yarn, but I really intend to just wear it for less formal occassions, so WE will be fine. Sorry to say that there is some mis-communcation between my card reader and my computer and I can't up load a pic of my swatch. I hope that I can figure out the problem soon. I need to upload piccies for the KAL.

So, here are a couple piccies of my beautiful lake Michigan that DH took last weekend. Those will upload and the reader recognizes them . Weird!
